Samuel McWilliam, of irish descent, purchased land at the northern edge of Corowa and planted his first vines on the property in 1877. By the time he retired in 1891, he had built the foundation of a winery that would span over 135 years, passing through generations of his family.
In recent years, McWilliam’s has continued to grow in popularity and stature, while always retaining the vision and knowledge imparted by the founders.
Today, the family mantle is carried by sixth generation winemaker Scott McWilliam who stays true to the family’s winemaking philosophy which centres on sourcing quality fruit and creating wines that balance elegance and power.
